The entrepreneurial history of the Metelmann family dates back to 1881, beginning with the sugar trade and production under the company Gerike, Bahr & Co.

In 1950, Herbert Metelmann founded Transozeanische Handels GmbH (T.O.H.) as a strategic extension of the family business. Over the course of three generations, the company supplied customers around the world not only with sugar, but also with food additives, oils, fats, and chemical raw materials.

During this time, close relationships were established with other renowned trading houses – including the respected Hamburg-based exporter DANGSCHAT, known for its specialization in pharmaceutical raw and auxiliary materials. Years of successful cooperation and complementary business areas ultimately led to the merger of both companies. Since then, we proudly operate as Dangschat T.O.H. GmbH & Co. KG.
